If you already own a phone number through a provider like Twilio, you can connect it to VozAgent instead of purchasing a new one. This is sometimes called “bring your own number” (BYO). It lets you keep the number your customers already know while using VozAgent’s AI assistant to handle calls.

Supported Providers

VozAgent currently supports connecting numbers from the following telephony providers:
ProviderStatus
TwilioFully supported
TelnyxComing soon
VonageComing soon
Twilio is the primary supported provider today. Support for Telnyx and Vonage is on the roadmap and will be available in a future update.

How It Works

When you connect your own number, VozAgent links it to its voice platform so your AI assistant can answer calls on that number. Here is the general process:
  1. You provide your Twilio credentials — VozAgent needs your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token to connect the number.
  2. VozAgent registers the number — The platform registers your Twilio number with the voice engine so calls can be routed to your assistant.
  3. You assign an assistant — Once connected, you assign an inbound or outbound assistant to the number, just like any other VozAgent number.
The number stays on your Twilio account. VozAgent does not transfer ownership — it simply configures the routing so calls are handled by your AI assistant.

Before You Start

To connect a Twilio number, you will need:
  • A Twilio account — Sign up at twilio.com if you do not already have one.
  • Your Account SID — Found on your Twilio Console dashboard.
  • Your Auth Token — Also found on your Twilio Console dashboard. Keep this private.
  • A phone number on your Twilio account — The number you want to use with VozAgent.
Tip: If you are not sure whether to bring your own number or get one through VozAgent, see Purchasing a Phone Number. Purchasing through VozAgent is simpler and does not require a Twilio account.

Connecting a Twilio Number

Connecting your own Twilio number is handled through VozAgent’s setup process. If you have a Twilio number you would like to connect, contact our support team and provide:
  1. Your Twilio Account SID
  2. The phone number you want to connect (in E.164 format, e.g., +13055551234)
  3. The assistant you want to assign it to
Our team will configure the connection and your number will appear on your Phone Numbers page within your dashboard. Once connected, the number works exactly like any other VozAgent number. You can:
  • Assign it to an inbound or outbound assistant
  • Set a fallback destination
  • Toggle SMS (if the number supports it)
  • Edit the label for easy identification

Managing a Connected Number

After your number is connected, you manage it from the same Phone Number Settings panel used for all numbers:
  1. Go to Phone Numbers in your dashboard
  2. Click the number to open the settings panel
  3. Update the label, assign assistants, configure fallback destination, and more
  4. Click Save Changes
For full details on managing phone numbers, see Managing Phone Numbers.

Telnyx and Vonage (Coming Soon)

VozAgent is working on support for connecting numbers from Telnyx and Vonage. When these providers become available, you will be able to connect numbers using a similar process. We will notify you when this feature launches. In the meantime, if you have a Telnyx or Vonage number that you need to use with VozAgent, the simplest approach is to set up call forwarding from that number to a VozAgent-purchased number. See Forwarding Calls to VozAgent for instructions.

Troubleshooting

My connected number is not receiving calls.
  • Make sure the number is assigned to an assistant. An unassigned number will not answer calls.
  • Check that your Twilio account is active and in good standing.
  • Verify the number has not been suspended or released on the Twilio side.
I see “Provisioning…” next to my number.
  • This means VozAgent is still registering the number with the voice platform. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page.
I want to disconnect my number.
  • Contact support to disconnect a BYO number. The number will be removed from VozAgent but will remain on your Twilio account.
