# Duplicating Assistants

> How to clone an existing assistant to create a copy with the same settings.

If you need a second assistant with similar settings — maybe for a different phone number, location, or slight variation in behavior — you can duplicate an existing one instead of starting from scratch. Duplicating copies all of the original assistant's configuration into a new assistant that you can then customize.

***

## How to duplicate an assistant

There are two places you can duplicate from:

### From the assistants list

1. Go to **Assistants** in your dashboard
2. Find the assistant you want to duplicate
3. Click the three-dot menu (the vertical dots icon) on the right side of the row
4. Click **Duplicate**

### From the assistant detail page

1. Go to **Assistants** and click on the assistant you want to duplicate
2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the page
3. Click **Duplicate**

### Naming your copy

After clicking Duplicate, a dialog appears asking you to name the new assistant. By default, it suggests the original name with "(Copy)" appended — for example, "HVAC Receptionist (Copy)."

Change the name to something descriptive, then click **Duplicate**. The new assistant is created and you'll be taken back to the assistants list.

## What gets copied

When you duplicate an assistant, the new copy includes:

* System prompt
* Greeting message
* Voice selection
* Tone and style setting
* Smart questions configuration
* Booking and calendar settings
* Transfer configuration
* Knowledge base connections

***

## What does NOT get copied

* **Phone number** — The new assistant does not get a phone number automatically. You'll need to assign one separately.
* **Call history** — The duplicate starts fresh with no call logs or activity.

***

## When to use duplication

* **Multiple locations.** You run the same business at two locations and want each one to have its own assistant with a different greeting or phone number.
* **A/B testing.** You want to try a different tone or set of questions and compare the results.
* **Seasonal variations.** You want a holiday version of your assistant with a modified greeting or hours, while keeping the original intact.
* **Team-specific assistants.** You want separate assistants for sales and support, but they share most of the same configuration.

***

## Tips

* **Rename it right away.** A descriptive name makes it much easier to tell your assistants apart in the list.
* **Review the copy before going live.** Open the duplicated assistant and check each tab to make sure everything looks right. Adjust anything that should be different from the original.
* **Locked assistants cannot be duplicated.** If an assistant shows a "Locked" badge, it cannot be duplicated until the lock is resolved.
